Tents of Lebanon
As the Lebanese government in 2015 decided to stop registering refugees, NGOs have estimated that around 1,7 million Syrian refugees live in the country. Bar Elias Refugee Camp is located 10 kilometers away from the Syrian border and gives shelter to 40 families, each accounting between 10 and 15 members. Every refugee camp has a shawish, who exerts the functions of leader. The members of the camp need his approval for several things. After NGOs distribute free food sometimes the shawish gathers the left food portions and sells it to the families. On the other hand Shawish is the contact person between NGO workers and the community, also responsible to send children to the school. Before taking photos in a camp you have to ask for his permission.
